Free Temporary Resident Permit

Many people have heard rumors that Canada now gives travelers a "free" Temporary Resident Permit and consequently think they don't need to hire an attorney to help them overcome a DUI when entering the country. The free TRP they had heard about is a special program pushed on the border by Tourism Canada that allows a border security agent to let an American who showed up at the border not knowing he or she was not eligible for entry into the country on a one time compassion basis. This does not mean you can just show up at the border with no paperwork, act dumb, and be allowed into the country without paying any lawyer fees or government fees.
